Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: The specification on the manual says max of 3200w for a 48v system. Can I put 1000w and efficiently charge my 48v battery bank and later upgrade?

Answer: Yes, that is no problem.
  • Question: Can I use this unit to charge my four 225 Ah batteries with grid power or when that's down my 5 KW generator, no panels for now just battery charging.

Answer: Maybe. An appropriately sized power supply that has an AC input (from grid or generator), with a DC output (to charge controller) could be used instead of solar panels, so long as the power supply is within the operating parameters of the charge controller (50V to 150V) DC.
  • Question: Can I use 2 of these to charge 12 155a hr. batteries with 11 solar panels in a 24v system?

Answer: Yes, that is fine as long as you don't put more than 150VDC into each controller.
  • Question: Can I use a 24 volt panel to charge a 12 volt system?

Answer: Yes, you can. The MPPT-60 will convert 12, 24, 36 volts.
  • Question: I have 10 panels, 30V @ 8 amps, in series to 60V @ 4 amps into the controller and out to a 12V bank and inverter. Will it handle that?

Answer: No, the previous answer is not correct. If you are charging a 12V battery bank then you can only put 800 watts into that controller.
  • Question: Can I use it for wind and solar at the same time?

Answer: You can only use it for solar. If you have wind, try the TS-60A that can be used as a controller for the dump load.
  • Question: What is the minimum voltage from the solar panel array for a 48V battery system? I want to figure out how many panels I need in series/parallel.

Answer: I'm not sure of the question. Normally the minimum voltage of panels is 12 volts (nominal up to 22v). You would need four 12v panels in parallel for a 48v battery. The amperage is usually the main question. What do you want to power with the batteries, and how often? If you only want to charge batteries, two 24 volt panels would do the job.
  • Question: Can you use the same wires for battery state and battery temperature?

Answer: No, the temperature sensor measures temperature only.
  • Question: Is this a discontinued or end of life product?

Answer: No, it is a current and active model.
