Triclopyr 4 is a herbicide that can be used to control various plants including poison oak, thistle, locust trees, buckthorn, Yuccas, Asian Bittersweet, and creeping Charlie and is easy to apply by hack and squirt or basal bark treatment. Its active ingredient, Triclopyr, is an ester form which is oil soluble and requires a surfactant to mix it with water. The mixing ratio is usually 2-2.5 oz per gallon of water for foliage application, 15% Triclopyr concentration in oil for small trees, and straight for large trees. The best time to apply is from early July through mid-September. Its main advantage is that it kills invasive species effectively, but can also harm non-target species like grass. The percentage of Triclopyr in the solution is 61.6% Triclopyr BEE. While it has its advantages, it has a strong smell and should be used with caution.
