Answer: Yes, the NESDR SMArTee XTR SDR is designed to run multiple NESDR SMArt series devices side-by-side with any USB-compliant device. -
Question:
Is it safe to use this with a cheap chinese upconverter? could the bias-tee be damaged or the upconverter without a dc block?
Answer: The Nooelec designs use automatic resettable fuse. Due to the E4000 chip used this one also has a noise spike right where you tune - so one needs to offset tune, also a gap near the ADS-B frequency. As to up-converter, they add annoying noise and cheap ones even more: this device goes up to 2.3GHz - or did you mean at the lower end? If you want to receive from lower frequencies I'd suggest the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v4 SDR which starts at 25MHz and to go even lower look at the Airspy HF+ Discovery which starts at 500 Hz. -

Can it receive ham radio frequencies?
Answer: The frequency range of this SDR is 55MHz - 2300MHz, with higher sensitivity under 500MHz and over 1500MHz. You can use this device to receive signals below 55MHz, but you would need to use an upconverter, like the Ham It Up, to convert these signals into a range that the SDR can pick up. -
Question:
Will this work if i live 11 miles (16km) from Heathrow airport to listen to pilots flying over my garden?
Answer: I am 17 miles from the airport and can pick up airport signals. I would recommend you get a good antenna for this SDR. Outdoor antennas are best or sky scanner type indoor.
