The APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS 1000VA Rack-mountable UPS is a high-end device with a 10-12 year warranty which is built to protect electronics from intermittent or short power outages. However, it is not intended for prolonged use. The unit is easy to install and wire up and is significantly lighter than the lead acid counterpart, with a network connection, and can provide 30-45 minutes of power supply with an average load. The unit can be mounted in a 2 post rack, and it gets a bit noisy when it kicks the fans on high to keep things cool while it's on battery. The unit has a smart connect feature that is pretty useless without a paid subscription. The MMC card costs $400, which is a cloud-managed facility with very limited options, and the software itself gets a grade of "D". The major issue is that the battery is hard to get a replacement for, and some customers have had problems with the customer support. Though the APC does make good hardware devices, they are falling behind in terms of software. **
